With this short story, I wanted to show how an inspired young man with great goals can end up in misery, not even understanding how it happened.
With slow transitions and descriptions differing throughout the novel, I achieved the desired effect: Only after looking back reader, same as the main hero, sees where Zargo made his "miscalculations"

How does it work?
Slowly "progressing" adjectives
Descriptions and adjectives slowly turn from "human" to "robot" or "metal", simplifying emotions.
Clear representation
Porquez, Zargo's friend serves as a direct representation of this small transformation, that everyone around the scientist went through
Changing the tone and location
Throughout the story,tone slowly changes from inspiring to depressing and lonely.
Same with location:I started with a small laboratory on a planet, with a lot of people around. And ended with a lonely big lounge room, in a spaceship, somewhere deep lost in space.
